Let's salute all those people present at IIFA Rocks for respecting the Maestro of Music, AR Rahman! It was a full house for the musician, who just recently received flak for playing Tamil songs. This concept of IIFA Rocks is very commendable. They lined up performances of musicians from the industry. Celebs namely, Diljit Dosanjh, AR Rahman, Aditi Rao Hydari, Benny Dayal, Hariharan, Haricharan Seshadri, Jonita Gandhi, Kailash Kher, Mika Singh, Mohit Chauhan, Neeti Mohan and Svetha Rao gave phenomenal performances. However, it was Rahman's act that stood out. Having recently been dissed for singing Tamil songs at a concert in Wembley, London, it was a very 'in your face' moment when people screamed "Once more! Once more!" for his act. The musician collaborated with Hariharan, Mika Singh, Jonita Gandhi and a few more singers to create a sensational symphony!
Mika even tweeted, "people stayed back for the entire show even when it was heavy rain. That's called the magic of @arrahman sir.. @IIFA @ColorsTV . He also shared a video snippet of his act with the maestro. "Rahman's performance was every bit worth it. We had no problems that he sang in Tamil because we believe one should preserve their culture," New York-based Rajan Panda told IANS after the concert. A New York-based Nepalese couple added: "We enjoyed the show very much. We came for Rahman. Its music, it's universal... It doesn't matter what language it is in." We heard it and yes, we are mesmerised with how beautifully the whole performance was conceptualised. You can check out video snippets of the performance below.

It wasn't cool what happened to him in London. A few concertgoers claimed on Facebook and Twitter later that they had walked out over the lack of Bollywood tunes from Rahman’s repertoire. Some of the users on Twitter complained that they felt duped by the organisers, as they were promised the performances would be in Hindi and Urdu.”#ARRahman concert: Never seen so much #disappointment & #masswalkouts. Approx one per cent of songs in Hindi. #ssearena filled on #falseadvertising,” one of the users tweeted. After facing so much backlash, the organizers released a statement saying, ”Hi London, thanks for the tremendous support and response, however we have been getting few complaints on language bias which is rather unfortunate as this was an Indian show and music doesn’t have any barriers,” said a statement from the organisers on the official AR Rahman Live – UK Facebook page.
The contradiction says a lot about the kind of people and the much prevalent racism. The videos from IIFA Rocks surely made our day! Stay tuned to this space for hot scoop and latest updates.
