..though Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman do return for the sequel!
Roland Emmerich returns to what he is good at - destroying things once again, after the 2009 film 2012. He will be making a sequel to his 1996 hit film, Independence Day. The film is titled Independence Day: Resurgence and they have dropped the first exciting trailer of the film. Things look bigger, better and badder but unfortunately, there is no Will Smith in here!
If you remember, it was the original film that made a star out Will Smith, who plays a dynamic US air force pilot battling aliens who had the daring to attack Earth. The first film won the Academy Awards for Special Effects that year, and was a huge blockbuster. So we did expect a sequel anytime, though it too Roland almost 2 decades to realise this. Even the trailer confirms this as it declares we expected the aliens' return anytime. The trailer begins on a gloomy note as Jeff Goldblum is brought in by scientists to what appears to be an alien attack on a place. We also see the former US President, played by Bill Pullman, plus a whole of new character played by Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe (of It Follows fame), Charlotte Gainsbourg, William Fichtner and Sela Ward. Plus, there is also Jessie Usher who will be playing Will Smith's son from the original. The trailer also plays Bill Pullman's speech from the original film in the background, before it cuts the speech unexpectedly before the end.

The film is scheduled to release on June 24 2016.
