The legacy of Bollywood music is tremendous and something everyone should be proud of. Along with music composers and singers, it is lyricists who have contributed to the classic songs that pull our heart-strings even today. Indian Idol 9 in tonight's episode paid tribute to some of India's finest lyricists like Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, Sahir Ludhianvi and others. It also saw the elimination of Tejinder Singh. However, the highlight was the presence of poet Kumar Vishwas who is known for being an AAP leader. He regaled everyone with his poetry and had some really nice words of encouragement for the contestants.
It began with a performance on Ek Ladki Ko Dekha by all the singers that left Kumar Vishwas mesmerised. It was a tribute to Javed Akhtar and made everyone nostalgic. Malvika sang the song Ajeeb Dastan Hai Yeh from Dil Apna Aur Preet Parayi. The song is composed by Shailendra. Kumar Vishwas was all praises for Malvika and said he was a huge fan of her singing and the time she had invested in the training. L Revanth paid a tribute to Gulzar with his song, Aane Wala Pal from the film Golmaal. He was extraordinarily good and earned praise on Twitter from Telugu star Ram Charan's wife, Upasana.
However, the lyricist who was spoken about the most was Sahir Ludhianvi. Kumar Vishwas said he was the poet who fought for the recognition of lyricists in Bollywood. Anu Malik said that Sahir was his uncle and the man was a powerhouse of talent. They sang his immortal number Kabhi Kabhie on stage. Khuda Baksh sang Main Zindagi Ka Saath from Hum Dono. It is also regarded as one of Sahir's finest works. The atmosphere was truly musical and it was nice to revisit the poetry that made its way into music.
Mohit, Tejinder and Malvika were the contestants in bottom three. Finally, it was Tejinder who was voted out. It seems L Revanth, Khuda Baksh and Malvika are the three most popular singers. While the judges were critical, Kumar Vishwas truly supported them. It was an episode for music lovers.
