It's that time of the year again, when a six by South African to an Indian bowler is celebrated by Indians, when people hope for a batsman like Virat Kohli or Yuvraj Singh to get out if they are not in their favourite teams, when Bollywood goes berserk over the match winning sixes, super humane fielding and some great bowling. Yes I am talking about Indian Premier League, popularly known as IPL - world's biggest cricket premier league. Starting in 2008, IPL has successfully entered its tenth year. While everything remains same or probably bigger, fans excitement, players excitement etc. But one thing that looked quite different this year, was it's craze over Bollywood. It is clearly missing.
Right now the first match of the league is going on between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore and apart from Mirzya actress Saiyami Kher, who is an ardent follower of cricket, none of the Bollywood stars have reacted so far. And I am not even talking about each and every celeb, in fact I am here talking about the usual suspects in Suniel Shetty (who was busy retweeting about his TV show), Amitabh Bachchan (again a huge Cricket fan), Shah Rukh Khan (owner of KKR), Preity Zinta (owner of KXIP). This is indeed surprising because crowds' favourite Yuvraj Singh scored his fastest IPL fifty in the opening game itself, and then you have Chris Gayle, David Warner, Shane Watson playing in the same game. In fact Rishi Kapoor who was quite vocal yesterday requesting the inclusion of Pakistani players in the IPL as well to his mum. In an alternate world, by now Bollywood celebs would have erupted in excitement over Yuvraj Singh's smashing 62 off 27 balls.
Check out Saiyami Kher's tweet below:
This time in IPL instead of going for a big grand opening ceremony, they opted for 8 small ones in each homeground. It was Amy Jackson, who performed at the opening match and according to reports Disha Patani too has been roped in to perform for April 8 match. While, like many of you, even I am enjoying the opening game, I couldn't help but think - is IPL craze really diminishing especially as far as Bollywood is concerned or I am probably imagining too much and they might react once the match is over. That's a food for thought.
