It comes as a surprise but Irrfan Khan's Hindi Medium has beat the opening day collections of Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Aamir Khan's Dangal. Wait! What? It may be hard to believe but that is true. But, Irrfan deserves all the good pieces of news in the world at this time in his life.
While Hindi Medium may have beaten the collections of the two movies, it has failed to beat another Aamir Khan film, Secret Supertstar's opening day collections. Talking about numbers, Hindi Medium was able to generate a whopping amount of $ 3.74 million at the Chinese box office. As opposed to that, Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which still remains one of his biggest hits ever, was able to garner $2.25 million. Well, the numbers achieved by Hindi Medium come as a surprise for two reasons. First, the lack of a superstar in the movie. And the language barrier that the plot of the film possesses. The movie is literally about the Hindi language and we wonder how the Chinese version must have translated it on screen. Whatever the reason may be, we have to say what a feat for Hindi Medium. It shows that Chinese audience is open to all kinds of Indian cinema and not just the ones with big names attached to them.
To be noted that Qingming Festival is being celebrated in China today. The holiday season might have earned the extra credits for Hindi Medium. ALSO READ: Hindi Medium box office collection day 1 China: Irrfan Khan's film opens to a tremendous response, collects Rs 24.31 crore
Hindi Medium also stars Saba Qamar alongside Irrfan. It tells the story of an Old Delhi couple who go to extreme lengths, which often lands them in comical situations, to get their daughter an admission in an elite English medium school. The movie gives the message of being proud about one's language.
