Vikram's Iru Mugan is clearly turning out be a winner at the box office. While the story and direction received mixed reviews, the box office collection says otherwise. This hard-core actioner reportedly has managed to collect Rs 92 crore in the last 12 days.The makers are confident that it will soon join the Rs 100 crore club. According to an official statement from Thameens Films, the film has grossed Rs 92 crore. "We are extremely happy with the numbers. The film has performed really well even outside Tamil Nadu and that's a big relief. We are hoping it will enter the Rs 100 crore club soon," producer Shibu Thameens told IANS. Shankar-directed "I" was the first Vikram film to have entered the Rs 100 crore club. And now Iru Mugan too! Looks like Vikram is on a winning streak! His double role has turned out to be twice as nice!
It was on September 8, in the auspicious month of Onam, the movie hit theatres. The actioner witnessed a slow start as it went on to collect Rs 10 crore in 2 days. It was in the opening weekend, the movie's collection peaked! The movie went on to collect Rs 51.19 in the four day opening weekend. Additionally, the Telugu version went on to do well. Reports in leading daily stated that the Monday-Tuesday collections added Rs 14 crore making the grand total Rs 65.25 crores in 6 days. Trade experts have called it the biggest hit after Theri and Kabali.
When the trailer of Iru Mugan was out, fans went crazy as they were getting to catch Vikram is a never seen before avatar. He played the hero Akhilan and the villain Love. So this was the first Vikram movie, where he was playing a hero and a villain! The movie also starred Nayanthara and Nithya Menen. Nithya plays a part of his agent team, that hunts down the villain while Nayanathara sets his heart racing. This was also the first time Nayan and Vikram were getting together for a movie. “Nayanthara has got an aura. When she’s in the frame, it’s sheer magic. Our chemistry has come out really well.” revealed Vikram at the audio launch of Iru Mugan.
