A hashtag trending on Twitter says so...
Salman Khan’s Sultan is all set to touch the `300 crore mark (`297 crore, at last count). However the collections given out by YRF are much lower than the ones reported by the trade. His fans are blaming producer Aditya Chopra. The star’s fans want to know why. They trended #YRFStopReducingSULTANFigures recently.
Our khabru explains the dodgy math, saying, “Their deal is such that if the film crosses the 300 figure Salman would get a big chunk of partnership. When Adi approached Salman for Sultan, the star was quite clear he wanted the same deal as Aamir Khan (for Dhoom:3) and Shah Rukh Khan (for Fan) got — a 80-20 profit-sharing ration. Adi had agreed because top stars like Aamir, SRK and Salman, rake in the big bucks. But showing lower figures means lesser profits for Salman. For Ek Tha Tiger, too, YRF stopped at the `199.6 crore-mark when everyone in the trade knew it had crossed the `200 cr-mark.’’
At the domestic box office, the film had a good 3rd week as it collected Rs 15.84 crore to take its total collection after 3 weeks to Rs 293.80 crore nett (Rs 411.32 crore gross). As trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed in his tweet, “#Sultan collected Rs 15.84 cr in Week 3, taking the 3-week total to Rs 293.80 cr. Will have to remain steady in Week 4 to reach Rs 300 cr mark. #Sultan [Week 3] Fri 2.14 cr, Sat 3.81 cr, Sun 5.14 cr, Mon 1.30 cr, Tue 1.25 cr, Wed 1.15 cr, Thu 1.05 cr. Total: Rs 293.80 cr. India biz.”
Adding both the domestic and overseas figures, we have Salman Khan’s Sultan box office collection standing at Rs 565.42 crore (gross) at the end of week 3.
