Mubarakan released on July 28 whereas Shah Rukh Khan's love story with Anushka Sharma hit the theatres on August 04. Arjun Kapoor's double trouble released in 2350 screens while SRK's film opened at 3100 screens. But the latter is failing to make a mark and latest reports suggest, Mubarakan is getting a spike in screen count on its second weekend because audience is preferring it more. So that made us wonder if the slow performance of Shah Rukh Khan's film is the reason behind theatre owners opting for more screens of Mubarakan?

We told you how expectations from SRK's film was monumental, especially because this year has been very depressing box office wise. There are only handful of films that made money for the industry and the one which earned in dollops is a Telugu movie. Of course, nobody is expecting any movie to earn the likes of Baahubali 2 because there were lot of reasons behind it doing so well at the box office. But when there is a Khan film on a Friday, industry likes to just relax and enjoy the dividends. But Jab Harry Met Sejal left everyone unhappy. A solo SRK release happened after Fan but it failed to encash his superstardom. Rs 15.25 crore on the opening day is not expected from a SRK film. In fact, despite clashes both Dilwale and Raees had better numbers than Jab Harry Met Sejal. It's time Shah Rukh Khan takes a long hard look at what he is doing. Mubarakan on the other hand, seems to have gained from this. Increase in number of screens on a weekend which has Shah Rukh at the theatres is a big deal. The fact that it is a family comedy is working immensely for the film. Also, the word of mouth for the film is still strong. You can expect some good numbers for the film today as well.
Well, at the end it's just the content which is making things work at the box office it seems.
