It was on November 1, Gautami announced her shocking split with Kamal Haasan after a 13 year relationship. Through an article titled - Life and decisions, she gave out the heartbreaking news that they were going separate ways. She mentioned how it was one of the most difficult decision she had to make, but they had no other alternative considering their paths were irreversibly diverged. Turns out according to an article written by a leading journalist, it was Gautami who wanted out, not Kamal Haasan. In fact, he reportedly tried to work things out, tried to cajole her, pacify her but she was hell bent on the break up. Finally he gave in to her wish, only on the condition that she and her daughter find accommodation before they leave.
When he was asked about the split Kamal Haasan said, “Whatever gives her comfort and solace is fine by me. My feelings at the moment are of no importance. What matters is that Gautami and Subbu should be comfortable and happy. I wish them all the best and want them to know I am there for them whenever they need me. I am blessed with three daughters — Shruti, Akshara and Subbulakshmi. I consider myself the luckiest father in the world.” Certain reports stated that the ugly spat between Shruti Haasan and Gautami was the final trigger. According to other reports, when Kamal Haasan injured himself recently, Gautami didn't form his duaghters earlier and that set off another fight. But through this split, Shruti Haasan has chosen to keep mum. Here's what a spokesperson had told a leading portal,"“She has never commented on anyone’s personal life and decisions. For Shruti, what matters most is standing by, loving and respecting her family — her parents and her sister — no matter what.”
The couple started living together in 2005. Both were very clear that neither believed in the institution of marriage. 13 years later, it's saddening to see two old friends not being able to work things out.
