Before we start off this feature, let’s wish our readers a very happy Independence Day!
Now we may have fought and won our Independence from the British 72 years ago. But there are still several enemies we have to get our independence from, like racism, unemployment, intolerance and other social evils. And when it comes to Bollywood, it has its own set of issues. Yes, like Nawazuddin Siddiqui revealed, there is racism and intolerance in Bollywood, but that is something that cannot be instantly removed from the industry, just like from the nation. It is a slower but gradual process. But there are certain other things that Bollywood needs to get independence from right away, and we beg the top stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir, Hrithik Roshan, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar to spearhead the change right now!
It’s strange that despite the ever-increasing women empowerment revolution, film-makers are resorting to item songs and some of them even objectify women to sell their movies. Bollywood, listen hard – you don’t need an item song to sell a movie! Do let me know how many item songs were there in Dangal, Bollywood’s highest grossing movie till date!
It’s okay to have franchises of films like Housefull, Munnabhai series etc. But not every movie needs a sequel, Bollywood. And if you do make one, make sure that the idea is worth executing. Otherwise, it will end up tarnishing the nice memory of the original movie. Remember what happened to Rock On 2 and Force 2? Speaking of unnecessary sequels…
… we would also be grateful if you are not lazy enough to remake a really good movie and turn into a cheap counterfeit. The same goes for songs as well. Why rehash good old stuff when we can make some really original content, like Hindi Medium, Neerja, Dangal etc.
Part blame should also go to the media too, for encouraging stars to turn the airport into a ramp! But yeah, it’s time to end our obsession with what the stars are wearing when they are rushing off to catch a flight as soon as possible.
Nepotism exists in every industry in the world, and at one point of time, we have all have encouraged it. So why just blame Bollywood for promoting the same? This is also the industry where outsiders like Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Madhuri Dixit, Kangana Ranaut have been at the top of the game. Yes, star kids are getting launched by the day, but it’s all because we have shown too much interest in their lives right from the times they are born. Who can really blame AbRam if he ever wants to be an actor in future after nearly spending his entire childhood in the spotlight? So yeah, let’s end the discussion on nepotism because Bollywood will never change until we change.
