And it's official! Gorgeous Katrina Kaif will romance Akshay Kumar in Rohit Shetty's cop actioner Sooryavanshi, which will be bankrolled by Karan Johar under his banner Dharma Productions. Khiladi Akshay Kumar announced the news on his social media handle, with a picture of him, along with Katrina, Rohit and Karan Johar and captioned it,"Welcome to our COP UNIVERSE @katrinakaif ...OUR SOORYAVANSHI GIRL!".
Honestly, this is a great news for all Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif fans as their favourite onscreen pair will reunite after nine long years. The duo have worked together in hits like Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, Namastey London, Tees Maar Khan, De Dana Dan, Blue, Singh Is King and Welcome and have garnered praises for their crackling chemistry. Akshay Kumar will play the character of kickass ATS (Anti-Terrorist Squad) chief Veer Sooryavanshi in the film. It was earlier scheduled to release in December this year but the makers announced the new release date with a poster, which said Eid 2020.
Sooryavanshi is set to go floors in May, confirmed director Rohit Shetty. He said, "We will begin shooting for the film in the month of May. It's a long one year's journey before releasing the film". Sooryavanshi will be produced under the banners of Dharma Productions along with Cape of Good Films and Rohit Shetty Picturez.
Meanwhile, Akshay will next be seen in Mission Mangal, which is scheduled to release on August 15 during the Independence Day weekend. The film will be jointly-partnered by Pad Man helmer R Balki and is directed by Jagan Shakti. The film features the ensemble cast of Sharman Joshi, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Nithya Menen in pivotal roles.
