A few days back, the Bombay High Court lifted the stay on the trial against actor Sooraj Pancholi in the Jiah Khan case. A complaint of abetment of the actress' suicide was registered against him, but Jiah's mother Rabia Khan has been alleging that it was a murder rather than a suicide. The next hearing is all set to take place on May 5 and it seems Sooraj will be in court tomorrow.

As father Aditya Pancholi revealed to Bombay Times, "It is a rare case where the accused is asking to speed up the matter. We are happy that the case will now take its due course. Sooraj will be present for the next hearing."
Sooraj's lawyer, Prashant Patil also added to the daily, "We had always requested the trial court to expedite the hearing and if possible even have a daily hearing. Time and again we have asked the prosecutor to open the case against us and frame the charges if there are any . They have just been coming up with allegations without providing any kind of evidence."
However, public prosecutor Dinesh Tiwari is confused why Sooraj is happy to rush with the case. He was quoted saying, "Have you ever seen any accused being happy to rush into the case? In a normal situation the accused will first apply for discharge rather than asking for expeditious hearing. They are welcoming the move because they are happy being charged under section 306 which is abetment of suicide as the maximum punishment if proved guilty is 10 years to avert being charged under section 302 (murder) for which the punishment is life imprisonment."
Rabia Khan had filed a fresh petition with the High Court against CBI's report by pointing out inconsistencies in their report, which categorised her daughter's death as a suicide and not a homicide. But coz the CBI had not filed a chargesheet till the last hearing in May 2, the HC deferred the hearing till May 5.
In the petition, her mother has also sought a Special Investigation Team (SIT) along with FBI's assistance for the case, as Jiah was a US citizen. This point will be discussed during the May 5 hearing. The leading daily tried reaching out to Rabia, but she remained unavailable for comment. What do you think about these latest revelations?
