Justin Beiber arrived in Mumbai amidst much fan-fare and stole everyone's attention with his Purpose Tour concert last night (May 10). While all the Beliebers were ecstatic and went crazy when Justin took the stage, someone who is not a fan of the pop star was amongst crowd too. Yeah, I am talking about myself. Being a journalist, I got the opportunity to attend the concert and see first hand, the fan frenzy surrounding JB and his first concert in India. Though I am not a Bieber fan, I must say I like a few of his songs like Baby, What Do You Mean and Sorry. So yeah, I was looking forward to the concert too, and here's what I was left thinking during the event.
If you ask me to talk about the experience in one word, I would have to say mesmerising! In fact, even though it has been quite a few hours since Bieber finished his act, the memories are still fresh in my mind. Justin's melodious songs, his cool attitude, his charisma, charm and his dance moves are things that really made me "Belieb" that he is one of the greatest performers. It was exactly 8 pm when he took the stage. I was at the venue since the last three hours, exhausted already cause of the extreme heat and dancing. But once he hit the stage, the crowd and Bieber got me dancing again. His charisma and energy was infectious. People started crying, some sang along with the singer, a few took videos, while a few lucky fans even got a chance to shake his hands. But there I was completely taken aback by his fan following and the love for his fans. He sang his heart out, interacting with the crowd time-and-again, however the one thing that stood out for me during the concert was when he sang Baby and Sorry.
Though the Beliebers were charged up all night, you had to be there to witness the atmosphere when he sang two of his biggest hits. Not only was the crowd hooting and screaming even louder, they were also jumping, dancing and crying even harder. I had goosebumps all over my body and I got a feeling of nostalgia. It was a moment for me to cherish. (ALSO READ - Justin Bieber apologised to his fans in middle of his concert in Mumbai - here's why!)
The show ended with Sorry, but before that Justin spoke about India and how he loved the Indian crowd. He even promised to be back here once again. All this was nice to hear, but the moment his crew member started waving the Indian flag on stage, I felt really proud. It was a really sweet gesture and I have to say that even though I am still not a BELIEBER, I would still go for his concert once again, just for the experience, the experience of him singing his heart out for his fans! He has completely earned my respect....
But then again, while Justin was fantastic, the overall experience was just decent! Why do I say so? It was because of the mismanagement at the venue. Firstly, there was no security for Bollywood celebrities. Yes, fans and photographers gathered around the stars when they arrived and the poor celebs did not have a clue where to go. The media was also not instructed about who is coming, where they had to go and what they had to do. Half of us (journalists), did not get any media bytes too. And then, food and water were being sold at exorbitant rates inside the venue. We had to pay Rs 200 for a twenty rupee bottle of water and Rs 300 for a roll. All in all, while Justin has won yet another admirer (No, I am not a fan yet) in me, the event could have been handled well. What do you guys have to say about Justin Bieber's Purpose Tour concert? Share with us your thoughts in the comments section below!
