Kai Po Che music review: Amit Trivedi composes a warm and earthy album!

Director Abhishek Kapoor's Kai Po Che soundtrack has only three songs, all composed and sung by Amit Trivedi. First up is Manja, which is in sync with the kite metaphor in the theme of the film. A sarangi solo leads into the song and becomes its driving force, allowing the folk tune to seep into you. The sarangi orchestra portion after the first stanza is especially beautiful. The song speaks of rebuilding faith in life and Swanand Kirkire is at his poetic best when he writes: Roothe khwabon ko mana lenge, kati patangon ko thamenge, hai jazban hai jazban, sulha lenge uljhe rishton ka manjha. The second song is Shubhaarambh sung by Amit Trivedi and Shruti Pathak, who adds a husky edge to this dhol and shehnai number. With authentic Gujarati lyrics, it smells of the soil of Gujarat and is definitely a new addition to the list of dandiya numbers, considering the fact that there has been no new Bollywood song to boast of in this zone since Dholi taro from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. But at the heart of it, this folk-fusion number is inspirational, egging you on to take a leap of faith towards fulfilling your dreams. The third song is Meethi boliyan – a dreamy, feel-good song. Amit Trivedi and Milli Nair’s voices flow like a light breeze on a warm afternoon, slowly building the tempo with strong drum beats at the end of each of the stanzas. Swanand Kirkire’s concept of Meethi boliyan sunlo aasmani rango ki sounds fresh and so does this lovely composition.
