The much awaited film from Dharma Productions Kalank is releasing today. It is a dream project for Karan Johar. The film starts off with the ailing Satya (Sonakshi Sinha) finding a new wife for her loving husband Dev ( Aditya Roy Kapur) in Roop (Alia Bhatt). She agrees to be a part of the samjhaute ki Shaadi on her own conditions. Roop moves from Rajasthan to Husnabad near Lahore. Kalank keeps you glued from scene one with it's visuals. Every frame is captured with great detail. They also manage to evoke the heightened emotions that we saw in the trailer. The fab visuals, art direction and dialogues are the highlights of the first half.
Keeping true to the spirit of the era, we see the restraint in romance and dose of melodrama. Varun Dhawan steals the show in the first half. The hunk is in top form whether he is flirting with Roop or expressing his angst about his illegitimate status in life. He has some of the best lines. Alia as Roop is dreamy, opinionated, wilful and confused. She does well and has maximum screen space. Sonakshi Sinha has fewer lines but is effortless. The actress does fabulously as the loving wife forced to share her husband. Ghar More Pardesiya and First Class look great on the big screen. We are a crucial juncture where Zafar's revengeful side gets better of him. Will hate destroy them as people? The second half is nicely set for more drama.
