PETA is now the biggest enemy in Tamil Nadu, as both commoners as well as celebs are blaming the animal welfare non-profit organisation for interfering in their centuries' old tradition. Thanks to PETA, Supreme Court in mulling over the fact to ban the sport of bull-hugging (the supporters' version) or bull taming/maiming (PETA's version), Jallikattu. A couple of years back PETA has submitted a complaint in the apex court to ban the festival owing to the cruelty being meted out to bulls. Supreme Court first banned the festival, but later retracts the order on government's insistence and later put a stay on its retractions stance and kept the festival on hold.
Tamilians, who feel Jallikattu is their pride, is not too happy with this stay, and they had held peaceful demonstrations at various places in the state, including celebs. Tamil stars Dhanush, Suriya and Vijay have slammed PETA and now joining them is the multiple time National award winning actor Kamal Haasan. The Sabash Naidu actor trolled PETA on Twitter, saying it was not 'qualified' to tackle Indian bulls and asked it to train its guns against "bull riding rodeos in Mr (Donald) Trump's US."
Here are his tweets,
Interestingly, Kamal Haasan has played a purveyor of Jallikattu in his 2004 movie Virumaandi. Here's a scene from the movie...
Meanwhile two people had died in Pudukottai during the Jallikattu ceremony, which was being held at a few places, after the government passed an ordinance. Wonder what the celebs have to say about this.
