After 48 days the Tamil Cinema Strike has finally been called off. Vishal, the President of the Tamil Film Producers Council confirmed the news on social media; he also listed out the various demands being met by Digital Service Providers. After this announcement fans are now looking forward to the new line up of releases. There are quite a few biggies to look forward this summer and we can't wait. As of now it has been confirmed that Karthik Subbaraj's silent thriller - Mercury will hit theatres in Tamil Nadu this week. No other official release dates are out yet. But film analyst Ramesh Bala has revealed the release timeline of two big much anticipated films - Kaala - June and Vishwaroopam - May. Vishwaroopam 2 trailer is coming soon and fans cannot keep calm
Whoa, that means Kamal Haasan's long awaited sequel will hit theatres before Rajinikanth's Kaala! Vishwaroopam 2 was to release in 2013 but due to financial constrains, the film's shooting had come to a halt. In 2016, Kamal Haasan took matters into his own hands and decided to produce it along with directing it. And now five years later, the film is finally seeing the light of day. While the first part was set in US, Part 2 will be set in India. Rahul Bose, Pooja Kumar and Andrea Jeremiah will be reprising their roles. The film has already been given a U/A by the Censor. The makers had confirmed that they would release the trailer once the ban was lifted.
As for Rajiniaknth's Kaala, the movie had locked in on April 27th as their release date. But there have been speculations that the film had been moved to the Eid weekend due to the strike. And now, even after the strike has been lifted it seems that the makers are looking at a grand June release. Whatever it is, we are excited as two rivals, and contemporaries will have releases this year. Interestingly, both made a political plunge this year as well. While Kamal Haasan has already launched his party, Rajinikanth is yet to announce the name of his party.
