The actress has a smart remark to make on one of the oldest issues in Bollywood.
Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has been on the news and featured on the tabloids for quite sometime now and not exactly for the right reasons. She has been called names and shown in a bad light due to her spat with actor Hrithik Roshan. In Spite of it all, she is still considered to be one of the most successful actresses in B-town at the moment. After a long spell of silence, she finally spoke up today in an exclusive interview to India Today on recent issues and other issues, one of them being the disparity of payment that still exists in Bollywood.
When asked about her feelings that she is not paid as much as the Khans, the Rangoon actress replied that," Khans are like a phenomena, so I wouldn't want to compare myself with them. But when it comes to other male counterparts, i make sure I am paid as much as they do."
After making this strong statement, she later clarified by saying," If i do a very small role in a film say an appearance or maybe one important scene, then I should charge according to that. But if i'm playing a central character and literally playing the plot driving protagonist which consumes my entire year and most of my time, then i should charge according to what I am providing as an artist."
Sounds perfectly sound and logical. Kangana feels that payment should be according to the efforts an artist is putting for a project regardless of the gender of that person. Sadly, such a clear headed approach is not applied in the industry and we still see a very clear disparity to this day.
