Here is a brief chronicle of the comedy superstar’s journey
Born into a middle class family in Amritsar, Kapil Sharma was creatively inclined since his teenage years. He could sing well and did theatre too. The demise of his father in 2004 meant that he had to support his family and that’s when he started exploring newer avenues. Here is a look at his success story…
The comedy king worked on the show Hasde Hasande Raho on MH 1. He was 24 years old then. It was a critical time for the comedian as he was struggling prior to that but had to take on the financial responsibilities of his family after the demise of his father. People still love his superhit Punjabi comedy and its videos are sought after on YouTube. In 2007, he auditioned for The Great Indian Laughter Challenge from Amritsar. Kapil Sharma got rejected from his own city. Not one to give up, he headed off to Delhi and gave another audition, where he got selected. At 27, he won that show and won a prize money of Rs 10 lakhs.
The comedy king went on to host Chote Miyaan and also did Ustaadon Ke Ustad. Everyone was pleasantly surprised to see his singing skills on Zee TV’s Star Ya Rockstar. Then, he participated in Comedy Circus. This was the actor’s first tryst with Sony Entertainment Television. He won six seasons of Comedy Circus and was a household name. The show also featured Krushna Abhishek, Bharti Singh amongst others. He was a part of it from 2008 to 2013. Post that, he got the offer from Colors to come up with Comedy Nights with Kapil.

The show made Kapil Sharma, one of present India’s cult entertainers. He along with his team won everyone’s hearts and CNWK become a Sunday feature in every household. It also transformed the revenues for the channel and made it a leader in the weekend programming space. Advertisers paid premium to feature in CNWK slot. After entering Colors, he also became the host of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. He is one of the most loved anchors so far. The whole of India took notice of Kapil Sharma when he won the Entertainer Of The Year Award in a glittering ceremony. We remember how he pulled Arvind Kejriwal’s leg in the ceremony.
In 2015, he was the host of The Filmfare Awards. The comedian broke into the bastion of Bollywood actors who were the only choices to host the show. The same year he made his film debut with Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon. The movie did well at the box office. Laurels followed till the end of 2015 when the story of his deteriorating relationship with Colors made news. By January, the fight was in the open. He quit the channel with his whole team and moved onto Sony for The Kapil Sharma Show.
