Yves Saint Laurent certainly was dead serious when he quoted that Fashions fade, Style is eternal! But looks the divas of tinsel town failed to grasp this notion who went full throttle to imbibe the much-in vogue trends in their styles for the prestigious green carpet IIFA Rocks 2017. Quickly escalating to the dreaded tacky territory, Katrina Kaif, Huma Qureshi, Richa Chadda, Neha Dhupia screamed aloud with their styles that they needed HELP! Even with some of the most sought after stylists at the helm of affairs for these ladies, they made some terrible fashion faux pas.
Popularly known as the Bollywood counterpart of Oscars, the IIFA 2017 is currently in its 18th edition and needless to say, these tinsel town divas are still figuring out a style niche for themselves, regardless of their strong persona and demeanor. Here’s how it went all down for the ladies.
Styled by Tanya Ghavri, Katrina Kaif chose an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla creation featuring a crystal beaded tassel blouse with a red ruffle constructed saree. She accessorized her look with uncut diamond jewelry and topped it off with a bold and bright red lip colour and wavy side-swept hair. Certainly a change of style, Katrina Kaif tried and erred while trying something new.
Styled by Sanjana Batra, Huma donned a strapless gown from Prabal Gurung that was replete with a multitude of mini ruffles and stepped into Gianvito Rossi black heels. With her hair pulled back, she sported a fuchsia pink lip colour and defined eyes. Huma Qureshi tried dabbling into something different but somehow the look fails to work in her favor. A change of lip colour could have salvaged the look.
Richa Chadda chose a thigh high slit gown featuring additional details of ruffles and lace. She chose to keep her hair swept on to one side and stepped into strappy sandals and carried a clutch teaming her look with barely-there makeup. An overbearing mess of lace and ruffles, Richa’s gown was too excited to be on the green carpet and failed to compliment her.
Going with a Hemant & Nandita printed voluminous gown and nude pumps, Neha Dhupia rounded up her look with her hair pulled back, jewellery from Outhouse and a metallic box clutch. While the prints are certainly overwhelming, we wonder what was the idea behind the stray strands stuck on her face? All in all, a look that failed to click, Neha Dhupia toed the fashion line.
Disha Patani wore a customized rose gold mini dress by Zara Umrigar and teamed her look with a pair of metallic gladiator flats. Hair and makeup artist Marce Pedrozo gave Disha a textured hairstyle and a bold makeup of defined eyes and nude pink lips. Ditching the gown and going the unconventional way, Disha Patani and her unconventional green carpet style along with the choice of the flats left us wondering is the diva was in a hurry to make it to the green carpet and forgot her heels in her room? Or did she have a footwear malfunction that she had to slip on these to complete her look?
Going for a black and silver pant suit teamed with black open toed sandals, Iulia finished out the look with bright red lips and her hair pulled back into a pony. A shimmery and unpleasing green carpet choice, the look is unlike Iulia and fails to evoke a wow.
Styled by Devki Bhat and going red on green carpet with a Kommal Sood strapless sweetheart neckline gown at Taapsee Pannu sported an updo with bright red lips, bindi, earrings and a statement ring. Well, firstly the bindi failed to blend, secondly, Taapsee’s look tips more towards the classic Indian bridal look and we wish she had not experimented at all!
Well, a common feature highlighted by these divas is the common style mistake of blindly following trends and failing to adhere to the basic elements of comfort and style. With the growing brigade of fashion stylists, actors and actresses these days are pretty much an interpretation of their stylists. While a few divas are able to align their style sensibilities with their stylists, we hope these ladies take note and turn the tables around tomorrow with some brilliant style moments at the IIFA Awards 2017.
