After the devastating floods in the state of Kerala, many people from different walks of life, are coming together to help rebuild the state. Many celebrities and politicians have done their bit, but it is the film stars that have grabbed all the attention. Actors and filmmakers from Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu film industries have generously donated towards the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund, which will be used to rebuild Kerala. However, a Kerala minister seems to be unhappy with the contribution made by Malayalam actors.
Kerala Tourism Minister, Kadakampally Surendran said that Malayalam actors should learn from Telugu actor, Prabhas, who contributed Rs 1 crore to the CMDRF upon learning about the situation. He also said that he hasn’t seen any such donations by Malayalam stars despite them earning so much.
"Our state has great actors, those who get Rs 3-4 crore for their films...that's what I've heard. There are actors who get at least Rs 3 crore in our state. All of them should learn from an actor from Andhra who has no inclination towards Malayalam and who has given Rs 1 crore. He did not hesitate, he heard about the tragedy and came," Minister Surendran was quoted as saying by TheNewsMinute.
Mohanlal donated Rs 25 lakh, while Mammootty and son Dulquer Salmaan, too, donated a similar amount. Tamil actor-filmmaker Raghava Lawrence has donated Rs 1 crore while Thalapathy Vijay donated Rs 70 lakh towards relief material. Actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth donated Rs 1 crore while Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth donated Rs 25 lakh each towards CMDRF.
