No justice! And irrespective of the sexual assault charges filed against him, the court stated that she cannot break the contract!
Popstar Kesha, who has been gone missing for a long time now has a big reason behind the missing status. The pop diva, who shone to fame with her 2009 single Tik Tok, got herself
embroiled in a legal battle against her Kemosabe Records producer Dr Luke. Now for all those who do not know the history behind this legal tangle, here's what happened. The pop artist filed a suit against her producer for sexual and drug related assault. Since she had signed a six-album contract with Lukasz Gottwald, she had requested the court for a preliminary injunction. However, last week, the world around Kesha tumbled when the court denied her the request. The popstar's career had already taken a drastic fall post the case filed against the producer and their inability to break the contract has hampered the possibility of Kesha to work outside the production house. When Kesha was 18 years old, she met Dr Luke who had bound her in a contract for over a decade and in fact, the abuse was always there since their relationship began! In an affidavit that she had present to the court last year, Kesha said, “Dr. Luke has been tyrannical and abusive since our relationship began,” Kesha explained in the affidavit, where she recounts going to a party with the producer when she was 18 and being given what he called a “sober pill.” “I had only had a few drinks but after I had taken this ‘sober pill’ I blacked out,” she said. “Then came Dr. Luke’s threats. I specifically remember him telling me that if I ever tried to get away from him for any reason that he would tie me up in litigation until my career was over.”
However, New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich denied the artist of the right to work outside the contract. She said, “You’re asking the court to decimate a contract that was heavily negotiated and typical for the industry.” Without a doubt, this created a big backlash among fans who instantly took to Twitter and started a hashtag FreeKesha campaign which had all the big faces of the industry such as Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande who lent their support to the popstar. In fact, Taylor Swift also donated $2.5 million to Kesha to help her with the legal costs and to start afresh.
We wonder how things are going to go now that the court has already made a judgement. What do you think BollywoodLifers? Tell us in the comments section below!
