The funeral of National Award-winning music director Mohammed Zahur Hashmi, known as Khayyam shall be performed here on Tuesday evening with full state honours, an aide said. Khayyam's mortal remains have been kept at his Juhu home to enable people to pay their last respects to the legendary composer who passed away aged 92 late on Monday. The funeral procession will start from his home in Dakshina Park Society, Juhu, at 4 p.m., and wend it's way to the Four Bungalows Kabrastan. The last rites will be performed at 4.30 p.m. and he will be accorded full state honours, including a gun salute, said the aide. Born in Jalandhar, he had a career spanning close to five decades in the Hindi film industry. He started working from 1953. Some of his best known works are Kabhi Kabhie, Umrao Jaan, Noorie to name a few.
Celebrities like Karan Johar, Sonam Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub have taken to Twitter to condole his demise. Big B wrote on Twitter, "A legend in music .. a soft-spoken amiable soul .. one that contributed to several films and some of the more important ones of mine .. passes away .. KHAYAM sahib .. for all the memorable music he conducted and produced .. prayers condolences." BollywoodLife extends its condolences to his family.
