Talking to a leading daily, when asked if her party members were upset about her lending support to the cause Kirron said, "There are many in power who are against Section 377 but there are also those who support it. The first thing I would like to do is introduce educational programs which will help people understand the scientific and medical history of homosexuality. This will eradicate the stereotype that men have a choice in deciding their sexual preferences.” Also Read - World Cancer Day 2022: Sanjay Dutt, Tahira Kashyap and more Bollywood celebs who bravely fought the deadly disease
She claims that she is friends with homosexuals and that it has never come in the way of her friendship. "One’s prayer and pleasure are personal business. I’ve a mixed bag of friends who are homosexuals, heterosexuals and bisexuals. Their sexual orientation does not define our friendship” she said. So does she think that films can help her cause? To this Mrs Kher said, "Films help minorities. ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ and ‘Singh Is King’ have been the ‘face’ of the Sikh community in Bollywood and helped us move on from portraying Sardars are ‘funny characters’. Bollywood is filled with closeted gays who pretend to be straight. It will take a long time for people to be open about the issue. The change definitely needs to start with our film industry.”
