Today it is Mahashivratri and everyone is celebrating the mystical Lord Shiva. He is the ultimate yogi, the master of all arts, a passionate lover and a God without bias. Lord Shiva is that enigma that constantly amazes us. From childhood, we have heard stories of how he threatened destruction after Sati's death, swallowed poison to save the world and even gave boons to the asuras. Shiva's wrath and benevolence is the stuff legends are made of. Bollywood too has explored the various shades of the Lord is some of its films. Here is a look at some of the memorable ones on the occasion of Mahashivratri...
Shivaay
Bolo Har Har Har...Ajay Devgn's Shivaay was one of the blockbusters of 2016. The actor played the role of a mountaineer who falls in love with a foreign tourist who gives birth to his daughter only to abandon them after a few years. Later, his daughter gets kidnapped by the sex trafficking racket of Bulgaria when she goes to the country to meet her mom. Well, hell breaks loose as Ajay (Shivaay) takes on the racket and finishes off the members one by one. The film was symbolic of Lord Shiva as the destroyer of all evil. Shivaay was first considered as a tad too long but picked up when they edited out 20 mins. Fabulous cinematography, great action and Ajay's explosive performance made the film stand out.
Kedarnath
Based on the Uttarakhand floods of 2013, Abhishek Kapoor's Kedarnath was beautiful, evocative and dramatic in the same breath. Sushant Singh Rajput played Mansoor, a porter who represented the selfless, pure and benevolent nature of Lord Shiva. The film got a good opening at the box-office as it was the debut of Sara Ali Khan. Wonderful performances, good music and a captivating climax made it a good watch at the theatres. Sushant said that Mansoor's character is the closest to his heart and fans feel it's one of his finest performances. Mansoor and Mukku's love story is one we'll remember.
Satellite Shankar
Sooraj Pancholi makes a comeback on the big screen with Satellite Shankar that releases on July 5, 2019. In the film, he plays an army man who tours the length and breadth of the country as part of his job. We do not know how Lord Shiva comes into the picture as yet. The film has been shot in ten Indian states. Megha Akash is the female lead of the movie. The film's tagline is how not every soldier goes to the battlefield yet serves the nation.
