The actor-singer-producer now wants to extend the campaign to South India and has roped in the Tollywood star
Tollywood’s top star Mahesh Babu will recite and record today the Telugu translation of the poem, MARD, which stands for Men Against Rape and Discrimination.
This is in connection with his collaborative role in Farhan Akhtar’s campaign, MARD, launched by the Bollywood actor-director after the Delhi gang-rape which rocked the country. Farhan, who wants to extend the initiative to South India, reached out to Mahesh Babu who enjoys huge popularity and a fan following to match.
MARD, the poem, has been written by Farhan's dad, the noted lyricist Javed Akhtar, to create awareness among men to respect women and promote gender equality. The poem has been translated into Marathi, Urdu, Bengali and, now, Telugu. Mahesh Babu has agreed to recite and record the poem as a MARD ambassador.
According to a statement from Farhan’s spokesperson, he wanted to reach out to people in the South too, and felt no one else could make more of an impact than Mahesh Babu.
We say it’s a great idea that Prince Mahesh is pitching in for a cause that needs all the support it can get.
