48 days ago, The Tamil Film Producers Council imposed a strike following the exorbitant fee charged by Digital Service Providers (DSP) wherein no new Tamil releases hit theatres and upcoming films' shooting were asked to come to halt. After several meetings, a final meeting was held between The Tamil Film Producers Council, the Digital Service Providers and the Tamil Government on April 17th. The meeting began at 11 am and ended at 9 pm with various demands being met. Following this meeting the Tamil Film Producers Council has decided to withdraw the strike. With the strike now being withdrawn, Mahesh Babu's Bharat Ane Nenu will now release in Tamil Nadu. The advance booking for this film will begin early this evening! All the Mahesh Babu in Tamil Nadu can rejoice as their favourite star's film will now release in Chennai! How important is Bharat Ane Nenu’s success at the box office for Mahesh Babu?
Until two weeks ago, films in other languages including Telugu released in Tamil Nadu. For instance, Rangasthalam starring Ram Charan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu hit theatres in Chennai as well. But the Telugu producers Council decided to support the Tamil producers by withdrawing their film. And that's how Rangasthalam was withdrawn a week after its release. But with the strike called off, Telugu film will now enjoy a wider audience in neighboring states.
Here's what Vishal had to say post the meeting - "Firstly, a very big thanks to our Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for the fullest cooperation. The most important aspect is as per our request Tamil Nadu government has ordered all the theatres to go fully transparent from June 1. A G.O. will be passed soon on this. Ticket prices will become flexible depending upon the scale of the film - small and big movies. Each film's ticket price will be decided, as per the film's value and scale."
With Tamil Cinema now back on track, we are soon going to be spoilt for choice.
