As a child I would look forward to Lohri and Makar Sakranti celebrations with my family and friends in the neighbourhood. We would wake up at 5am to prepare the kites and a cassette/CD of that year’s hit tracks to be played on loud speaker. On Makar Sankranti mom would make her special dal ke pakode with mint chutney that we relish as a family. I don't fly kites anymore because a huge amount of birds and animals get injured and killed. As a child, every time I would catch a kite flying out of nowhere and whenever I won a kite competition, I felt victorious.

For Hindus it is the beginning of the New Year as per the Vedic chart .My fondest memories of Makar Sankranti is eating lots of til ka ladoo and khichdi. After that, we would fly kites the whole day.

I miss those days when I used to celebrate Makar Sankranti at my home town. I used to wake up early in the morning and go straight to the terrace to fly kites with my friends. There used to be music blaring from loudspeakers. Kite-flying was the activity of the day.

When I was a child, I used to fly kites with my family and friends. I used to eat Til ka ladoos. I don't fly kites now because the kite threads cause injuries to birds but I eat ladoos with fail.

When I was in Bhatinda, I used to wake up early to fly kites and it was a whole day affair. I remember my mom used to cook khichdi, which we loved eating. I really miss those days.

I love this festival and every year I celebrate with my husband and daughter. I make Til ka laddoos because my husband and daughter love to eat ladoos. After that, I fly kites.
