Malayalam film director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan's 'sense of humour' has not gone down well after he said that he would spit on Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu.
While the country has been celebrating Sindhu's victory, who received a remarkable reception, Sasidharan wrote on Facebook in Malayalam, "Everyone is celebrating Sindhu's achievement now. What if I spit on this? What is there to celebrate much about it?"
His post fetched him a lot of criticism as social media slammed his remark. In an explanation about his absurd tweet, Sasidharan said that it was 'black humour' that people did not understand and were getting angry over nothing. Sasidharan has directed popular Malayalam movies like Ozhivudivasathe Kali and Oraalppokkam.
A two-time bronze medallist at World Championship, Sindhu lost in the finals of Rio Olympics to Spain's Carolina Marin to settle for a silver, becoming the first Indian shuttler to achieve such a feat. A day after being felicitated by Telangana government, Olympic silver medallist P V Sindhu was today accorded a rousing welcome by the Andhra Pradesh government for her stupendous performance at the just-concluded Rio Games.
After a commendable achievement like this, we have well-known figures dissing her feat. If this is his idea of a joke, it's definitely not a funny one. He cannot undermine the achievement of a 21 year old who has worked her heart out to reach this level. What she really deserves is a thunderous applause. If you can't be generous with your compliments, don't sting with disgusting remarks.
