Watch the trailer of Faiza Ahmed Khan’s documentary film set in a small village of Maharashtra
It is probably one of the best times for indie filmmakers, as PVR’s Director’s Rare is releasing ‘hatke’ films that otherwise might have never found a commercial release. It started off with Sudhish Kamath’s Good Night | Good Morning, followed by Sandeep Mohan’s Love, Wrinkle Free and the latest indie effort that will soon get an audience is the critically acclaimed, award-winning film by Faiza Ahmed Khan’s Malegaon Ka Superrman.
Malegaon is a small town in the heart of Maharashtra that is fraught with communal tension and is under severe economic depression. To escape the harsh reality of their world, its people find solace in the fantastical world of cinema. This passion for cinema has spurred a group of cinema enthusiasts to make their own films - quirky, low budget, socially aware and notoriously funny spoofs of Bollywood films. Malegaon Ka Superrman is about their growing ambitions and how they try to take on Hollywood and Superman, in a peculiar way.
