The director had attempted to shoot in the valley before but failed
After the success of Oopiri, actor Karthi is now working on another film with none other than Mani Ratnam. The veteran director has had a great 2015 with his film O Kadhal Kanmani or OK Kanmani as it is better known as, doing exceptionally well at the box office. Strengthened by the success of the film, Mr Ratnam has now something much better in store.
This film which will star Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead, will be set in Kashmir. Owing to the volatile nature of the Kashmir valley, Mr Ratnam is currently trying to get permission to shoot certain aspects of the film. In case he is unable to shoot in Kashmir, he has opted for Himachal Pradesh as an alternate location.
As for the untitled movie itself, it is touted to be a love story between a pilot, played by Karthi and a doctor, played by Aditi. It will also have a background of terrorism. For nailing the pilot role, Karthi has been undergoing pilot training.
The plot of the story does sound strangely similar to that of Roja, which was also a Mani Ratnam film in the 90s. What's more, Roja was also supposed to be set in Kashmir but was actually shot in Shimla. Here too, the director may have to make a similar decision if he fails to attain permission.
There are also talks that the film will release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and its telecast rights are already being fought for. The official shooting is supposed to commence in July.
