So it is here finally! Vijay's 61st movie finally has a name and a poster. Mersal, that's the title and with my very limited knowledge of Tamil, correct me if I am wrong here, it means 'stunner'. The poster of the movie has Vijay in a typical village look, with bulls behind him with decorative props, as the actor is shown dusting his hands off. It looks like he is ready to play Jallikattu with the bulls here, and thus show once more to the PETA and the court where his soildarity lie - to the people in Tamil Nadu who wants the festival to go on (is it also a subtle hint at his political ambitions?).
Political aspersions aside, the first look of Vijay's movie did remind me of the first look of Salman Khan's Sultan. I have merged that above for your reference. While there are no bulls behind Salman Khan's back, the pose is quite the same. But I still like Vijay's poster better since it is not as badly photoshopped as Salman Khan's Sultan poster, for which the latter was trolled a lot. Thankfully, in the case of Sultan, they made better posters after that.
Coming to Mersal, this will be Vijay's second collaboration with director Atlee after the superhit Theri. Vijay played a police officer and a widower in the movie, with a kid. Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson were the heroines there. In Mersal, He will be seen romancing three heroines, Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menen and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, while others in the cast include SJ Surya, Sathyaraj, Vadivelu, Kovai Sarala and Sathyan . AR Rahman scores the music for the film, while it is written by KV Vijayendra Prasad, SS Rajamouli's father, who had earlier worked on the Baahubali series and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Mersal is expected to release in October.
