The film is directed by Ashutosh Gowariker.
Mohenjo Daro is getting some scathing reviews from everywhere. It's a pity since the film is directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the man who gave us Lagaan and Swades, and stars Hrithik Roshan, one of the best actors of our generation.
The film is based in the prehistoric times during one of the oldest civilizations known to human beings. So that's another sad fact for all movie lovers, since our film-makers rarely attempt a film based in such an era. The setting was definitely one of the USP of the film, and it's a tragedy that the film could not do justice to the same. Pooja Hegde is the female lead in the film.
The first day domestic collections of the film is out, and the film has grossed Rs 8.87 crores. Not bad, actually. But for a Hrithik Roshan film, that is releasing after a gap of nearly a year and a half after his last release, Bang Bang, it is still below than expected. Also the production costs of the film has been high. Here's what eminent trade analyst, Taran Adarsh has to say about the collections with his tweet, "#MohenjoDaro Fri ₹ 8.87 cr. India biz... Will need to show solid growth to leave a mark."
Here's his tweet,
Partly to be blamed for the less collections is that it has been released with Akshay Kumar's Rustom, which has a far greater pre-release hype than hrithik's films. Also the trailers for Mohenjo Daro have not created as much buzz as it should have.
However, with the weekend and Independence Day ahead, let's hope that the film manages to pick up collections, though with the negative buzz, it's quite an uphill task.
