On Valentine's Day, many couples complain that the moral police does not allow them to romance in public places. But what about those couples the mere hint of whom being in love make them despicable for many. On the occasion of Valentine's Day, MTV has come out with a campaign that talks about the issues that bother the LGBT community. One of them is expression of love in public places. The sight of two people in same sex relationships even holding hands in public repulses many. The campaign How can love be chhee? highlights that in a hilarious manner.
It shows that Indians can be indifferent to a number of disgusting and obnoxious things in public like digging one's nose or scratching at odd places. Many of us find it perfectly okay. However, the sight of two people of the same sex, especially men holding hands drawn frowns and social criticism. Through the campaign it addresses the hypocrisy prevalent in society. The channel is known to talk about issues that pertain to the youth. With this campaign, it addresses the celebration of love for the LGBT community. The channel has put together visuals of the disgusting things that people don’t mind others do in public but the thought of two men in love somehow disgusts them out of their wits. The channel has rightly raised questions on why we turn a blind eye to the obnoxious things people do while the visual of two lovers holding hands unanimously repels us. How can love be chhee? is hilarious and thought-provoking.
This is not the first time the channel has raised topics relating to the LGBT community. Last year, we saw a lesbian love story on MTV's The Big F, which won a lot of accolades. The show had Madhura Naik and Aasma Badar as a couple. The kiss between the two was widely reported in the media. With this campaign, they have taken their initiative a little further.
