So, the winners of the National Film Awards 2019 are finally here and boy, is it a celebration. The head of Jury for feature films, Rahul Rawail, announced the awardees out of the 419 films competed for the awards this year and the biggest news came in for Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal who bagged the honour of the Best Actor title for Andhdhun and Uri: The Surgical Strike respectively. The film Uri even helped director Aditya Dhar win the Best Director award. Even Twinkle Khanna's PadMan stood tall and emerged the winner of the Best Film on Social Issues and needless to say, we can't think of more deserving ones than the names mentioned above.
In fact, the actors have all expressed gratitude and gratification on the feat. Ayushmann Khurrana who is well, on his next to do more meaningful cinema said, "It’s truly humbling and hugely gratifying to win the coveted National Awards. As an artist, I have always tried to back disruptive content that stands out for its quality content. Today’s honour is a validation of my hard work, my belief system, my journey in movies and my reason to be an actor in the first place. Over and above my personal win, I’m thrilled that both the films that I have done - AndhaDhun and Badhaai Ho have won at the prestigious National Awards. It again validates that people of our country want to see cinema that entertains, that they can cherish, discuss and endorse."
Meanwhile, Vicky Kaushal took to Instagram to share his joy. In a post, he wrote, "Words might fall short to describe the happiness I'm feeling right now. For my work to be recognised by the honourable National Film Awards jury is truly a moving moment for me and my family." He also added, "I'm also very happy to be sharing the award with someone whom I admire, both as a person, as an actor. Ayushmann, congratulations brother!"
Even Akshay Kumar was all praises about wife Twinkle Khanna who debuted as a producer with PadMan. The proud husband stated, "I was in the midst of Mission Mangal promotions when Tina called me asking if it was true?If Pad Man had actually won a National Award for Best Film On Social Issues. All my tiredness of promotions vanished hearing this news. I remember it was on the sets of Pad Man only that Sonam and I got the news of winning our respective National Awards last year. So life has come a full circle and I couldn’t be happier for Tina for winning this with her debut production and of course R.Balki for putting it all together and the entire team behind Pad Man."
Akshay also added, "Not just that, Chumbak, a Marathi film I presented, Swanand Kirkire won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor for that film. Overall, it’s been a rewarding day." It has truly been a great day for both fine movies and fine actors. Stay tuned to BL for more updates and scoops!
