The actress released first poster of the film on social media
Sonam Kapoor’s Neerja is a film most of us are waiting eagerly for. The actress, who has begun promotions for the film, was teary eyed during the trailer launch as this is the most sensitive and important project she has ever worked on.
The story revolves around Neerja Bhanot, who was a flight attendant for Pan Am, based in Mumbai, India, who lost her life while saving 359 passengers from terrorists on board the hijacked Pan Am Flight 73 on September 5, 1986. Posthumously, she became the youngest recipient of India's highest peacetime military award for bravery, the Ashok Chakra. The actress feels privileged to play the character onscreen. Sonam was quoted saying, “There are times in an actor’s career when a very special role in a special motion picture comes your way. The biopic of Neerja Bhanot is one such. I feel honoured and humbled to have the opportunity to essay the role of India’s youngest Ashoka Chakra awardee."
The film also stars Shabana Azmi who plays the role of Neerja's mother, Rama Bhanot. Rama passed away last year but was delighted that a film is made on her daughter. Akhil and Aneesh Bhanot, who are the brothers of Neerja, attended the trailer launch and shared how similar Neerja’s demeanor is to Sonam. “Sonam is the best choice for this film. We received many scripts in the past on Neerja but nothing clicked like this one. We are content with the way they have made the film,” said Akhil in an EXCLUSIVE interaction with us.
