Rajkummar Rao's Newton is easily one of the most unusual films of 2017. While the film didn't garner much buzz prior to the release, it has been declared a clear winner ever since it hit theatres. What makes this victory even sweeter is that it managed to race ahead of Sanjay Dutt's Bhoomi and Shraddha Kapoor's Haseena Parkar that released on the same day. The film until Thursday raked in a whopping Rs 11.83 crore. The four day weekend proved advantageous not only for Judwaa 2 but also for Newton. It started off with 91 lakhs on Friday, that increased to Rs 1.66 crore on Saturday. On Sunday, it further increased to Rs 1.75 crore. As it entered the second week, the film continued to remain rock steady as it earned Rs 1.44 on a Monday. Despite a big release like Judwaa the film has maintained its hold at the BO. The performances, the story and unusual plot are some of the major reasons, Newton has found an audience. Fans, celebs are all praises for the political sattire. Another reason for Newton's significant jump at the Box office is announcement of the film's entry for Oscars 2018. This splendid news has worked wonders for the movie which is clearly reflecting in the BO numbers. Though the movie has been accused of being a copy of an Iranian film - Secret Ballot, it hasn't dampened the film's performance at the BO in anyway.
Here's an excerpt from our review:What works best for Newton is that the director presents ideologies of different characters in the movie, and lets us choose a side. Newton may want to change the world with his ideals, but at one point, you just want this guy to shut up and adjust to the world. Aatma Singh may come off as an a-hole but he is someone who is protective of his team and doesn’t want any harm to befall on them because of an election.
