Malayalam actor Dileep was suspended from Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) after Kerala police arrested Dileep for hatching a plan to kidnap and assault a Malayalam actress. And after few months, actor Mohanlal was elected as the President of AMMA and in a meeting with the newly elected officials, Dileep was reinstated with the membership in AMMA. Many actresses, who are also members of AMMA, protested this move by the association and resigned from the actors’ body. Parvathy, Revathy and Remya Nambeesan among many others stepped down from the association and urged AMMA to suspend Dileep from the union.
The actresses have been protesting Mohanlal’s silence on the whole issue and have time and again spoken about the whole issue. And according to latest developments, Mohanlal has said that Dileep cannot be suspended from AMMA. "It is the general body of the association that has the power to initiate disciplinary action against any member. A legal advice was sought in this regard," Mohanlal was quoted as saying.
Dileep was arrested in July 2017 after the police found irrefutable evidence against the actor for hatching a plan to kidnap and assault a Malayalam actress. The victim was kidnapped from her car by unknown assailants and dropped her off on a highway. Dileep, along with Pulsar Sunil, was arrested by the police in connection with the case and the actor was in the jail for close to 3 months. Dileep is now out on bail in the case and is fighting the case in Kerala High Court.
