Aamir Khan’s Dangal deserves an applause for the way it has portrayed Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Geeta and Babita Phogat in the movie. While everyone seems to be loving every bit of the movie, there is someone who is miffed with Aamir. PR Sondhi, the real coach of Geeta Phogat has stated that he is upset with Aamir and the filmmaker for having portrayed him in a bad light. While initially there were reports that said that he might take legal action against the actor and the film maker, he has now confirmed that he won’t be doing anything of that sort. However, he did suggest Aamir that he should have spoken to the coach (him) before playing the role. In an interview with ANI, PR Sondhi said, “Mai ek baar Aamir Khan ko kehna chahunga ki unhe coach se baat karni chahiye role dikhane se pehle; Action lene ka koi irada nahi (I wish to tell Aamir Khan that he should talk to the coach before portraying the role. I don’t wish to take any (legal) action (against him).”
In his interview with Sportskeeda, the coach had earlier stated, “It made it spicy but didn’t really convey anything of what actually happened. Everything was amicable, but distorting of facts just hurts my reputation. (My work was) something which saw me become national wrestling coach. I will watch the film and take a call whether to take some serious legal action.” “For the past two decades, I have been in the national set-up, working with the Government of India and Wrestling Federation of India. I met Aamir Khan in Ludhiana regarding the film, and he didn’t discuss the final sequence at all. If inputs were taken from me, then why create such fictional events about me? Mahavir never interfered with the coach’s work during tournaments.” (ALSO READ: Aamir Khan’s Dangal might fall in legal trouble courtesy Geeta Phogat’s real coach)
