For fans, talent was all that drew them to him...
Aashiqui 2 is one album people are listening to even today and Tum hi ho is perhaps the most heard track from it. One fine day, it was out and we couldn't get enough of it. Arijit Singh had finally arrived even though he had sparingly sung some really good songs before as well. Every film has at least one song sung by him and we couldn't have asked for anything more. You would think it must be a proud moment for him to get so much love from music listeners but we were wrong. For him, a Salman Khan song is the barometer for success but we can prove that Arijit is a success without the Khans. Here are 10 reasons...
Tum hi ho
The laid-back yet deeply romantic song from Aashiqui 2 not only catapulted him to instant stardom, it also turned the film into a huge blockbuster. This is a must have song on everyone's playlist even today. Aditya and Shraddha Kapoor were part of this song and not Salman or Shah Rukh or Aamir.
Milne hai mujhse aayi
It's a song of self-loathing with depressing lyrics but the way Arijit sang it, it became an anthem for everyone who saw failures in life. Again it had Aditya Roy Kapur in it.
Kabhi jo badal barse
One of the most beautiful and sensuous songs had Sachiin Joshi in it along with Sunny Leone. Arijit gave playback for Joshi and yet, this song was a huge hit although you can't say the same for the film, Jackpot.
Humari adhuri kahani
This heart wrenching melody was on the top of everyone's playlist last year. We have heard it on loop and everytime, we felt every word he sang. It had Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan in the lead, not a Khan.
Tera hero idhar hai
When everyone thought Arijit can only sing melodious and soulful number, he went all peppy and energetic with Tera hero idhar hai from Main Tera Hero. Coupled with Varun Dhawan's antics, it was an instant hit. No Khan again, by the way!
This is one of the best shot songs in Bollywood. It is sung at a time when Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are escaping bullets being hurled at them without any break. A very unusual setting for such a romantic number and yet we love it. Yes, it had a Khan but not a Salman, Shah Rukh or Aamir.
Suno na sangemarmar
Youngistaan was a good film but the best thing about it was Arijit's Suno na sangemarmar and we can bet everyone will agree to it. And just so that you remember, it had Jackky Bhagnani mouthing the lyrics.
Main tenu samjhawaan
Yes it's a reprised version of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's song but you can't deny Arijit's voice made it even more alluring. We have all tried singing this song at least once. The film had Varun Dhawan in the lead, just saying!
Yeh fitoor mera
Fitoor may have tanked but the title track is a colossal hit. People started having their own versions of it and we all loved it. The film again didn't boast of any Khan in the lead.
Phir le aaya dil
The moment this song starts, we are swayed by it. The lazy melody hits you home because of its composition and the lyrics. Barfi! was an amazing film and had Ranbir Kapoor in the lead.
Moral of the story: You need talent for success not a Khan and Arijit you have that in plenty.
