While I’m a fan of Junior B’s acting skills, the fact that he was presented the Lion's favourite best actor (Male) award is appalling. Why not Shahid or Aamir?
I was smitten by Shahid Kapoor’s mind blowing performance in Haider. His monologue from the film, was powerful enough to make him a strong contender in the ‘Best Actor’ race this year. I hold a similar opinion about Aamir Khan’s stellar stint in PK. Can you think of any other actor with an ability to convince you that he is an alien who speaks Bhojpuri? These performances are impactful and at par with each other. Hence, Abhishek Bachchan’s act as Nandu Bhide and Vicky Grover(double role) in Farah Khan’s Happy New Year in comparison, doesn’t quite add up. I’m not saying that the actor was bad in the film. In fact his chichora ways, snake dance and hilarious antics overshadowed the likes of Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. But to present him with the Lion's favourite best actor (Male) award was a little unbelievable especially when there were others like Shahid and Aamir in the race!
Firstly, AB’s act as Nandu deserves a mention in the ‘supporting actor’ category as it didn’t have the kind of magnanimity needed to be listed in the ‘best actor’ segment. Secondly, it seems like the presenters of the awards couldn’t find big wigs to come on board and hence gave the shining golden piece to a smiling Abhi, who happened to attend the event.
Not only senseless, but all this is disappointing as well. Till when will presenters keep giving away awards just to please the actors? After categories like ‘Style Diva,’ ‘Star of the Year’ or ‘Rulers of Box Office,’ what’s next? ‘Smile, pose or laugh of the year?’
