NOTA Public Review: Has Vijay Deverakonda’s attempt at political genre hit the right chords?

While Vijay Deverakonda has been supremely confident about the content in NOTA, the translation of that belief in the film will be tested over the weekend.

After raising the bar with films like Arjun Reddy and Geetha Govindam in Telugu, Vijay Deverakonda is now headed to Tamil cinema with the political genre NOTA that has him playing the most powerful role – a Chief Minister. And it’s not easy to pull off such a role so early in your career when top actors like Mahesh Babu and Chiranjeevi took up those kinds of roles at the peak of their careers. NOTA is releasing today worldwide and the buzz around the film is high considering the fact that Vijay Deverakonda enjoys a huge admiration in Tamil Nadu as well. But will NOTA impress the audience and make him one of the reckoning stars in Tamil too? Reviews and opinions from the premiere shows in the US and the early morning shows today seem to have a mixed response, if not discouraging. While many viewers felt that the story of NOTA revolves only around Vijay Deverakonda, few felt that the film wasted Vijay Deverakonda as an actor. The earnings from the collections from the premiere shows portray different picture which is an accumulated result of the promotion of the film. But will the film sustain it till the first week and not get lost in the hood of appreciation of other films like 96 and Ratsasan. While Vijay Deverakonda has been supremely confident about the content in NOTA, the translation of that belief in the film will be tested over the weekend. Director Anand Shankar is known for making films with substance and coming from the school of A.R. Murugadoss, he certainly has it in him. Well, like everyone, we wait to see how NOTA fares at the box office and how Vijay Deverakonda is embraced by the Tamil audience.
