The trailer of the upcoming Shoojit Sircar film, October, has left everyone impressed. It is one of the most awaited films of the year and features Varun Dhawan and debutante Banita Sandhu in lead roles. Just like the trailer, the music of the film, too, possesses a melancholic quality. We have been listening to Theher Ja on loop, and now we have another one, Manwaa, to add to the list. The song has been composed by Shantanu Moitra and it holds the same simplicity as his first film, Parineeta, did. His frequent collaborator Swanand Kirkire joins him to write the lyrics of the track. The song weaves a poetry and inclines towards heavy Hindi words and it has been a long time we heard one like that.
After a long time, someone has given Sunidhi Chauhan something challenging to do. Comparing it to her last few hits, Radha and Bloody Hell, she has given rest to her high energy vocals and goes for mellow timbre. She transitions smoothly to an even softer chorus. The backup vocals by Pronob Biswas won't go unnoticed either. Though not given much to do, his alaap provides a drama to Manwaa. Not that Sunidhi has done any less of a job, but I'd love to listen to a version of this song in Rekha Bhardwaj's voice.
Speaking of the music video of this October song, once again we are only shown a brief glimpse of what's cooking. We get to see the caring side of Shiuli (Banita). We see that Dan's (Varun) initial efforts to get close to her are rejected by people in Shiuli's life. A melancholic shot of Varun with a teardrop rolling down the cheek will make you want to give him a hug. Just like Sunidhi in the song, an otherwise Varun also goes for a more controlled performance, embracing the sorrowful emotions.
