Shraddha Kapoor seems to be ready for another setback after Rock On 2, as the 'much expected to succeed' OK Jaanu fails to entice the audience into entering the theatres. OK Jaanu was the official remake of the 2015 Tamil hit, OK Kanmani that starred Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menen. It was Mani Ratnam's take on this generation's take on romance, career and life, and focussed on a young couple's live-in relationship. Shaad Ali, longtime assistant of Mani Ratnam, who made his debut with the remake of Alai Payuthe in Saathiya, helmed to remake by casting in Shraddha Kapoor and her Aashiqui 2 co-star Aditya Roy Kapur, and reimagine the success of both OK Kanmani and Aashiqui 2. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case here.
Uncharacteristically, the movie had a very average weekend collection by grossing only Rs 13.80 crores. On Monday, the collections dipped further as trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the collections for the day, which came around to just Rs 1.95 crores. That brings up the four day collections to Rs 15.75 crores. Here's what he tweeted, "#OkJaanu is weak... Slumps on Mon... Fri 4.08 cr, Sat 4.90 cr, Sun 4.82 cr, Mon 1.95 cr. Total: ₹ 15.75 cr. India biz."
It's a surprise that OK Jaanu is not working well, since the trailers have been a hit with the youth, and the songs have been well received, including the much debated Humma Humma new version. The only competition was from Deepika Padukone's Hollywood debut, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, but then that was an English movie. With Dangal still going strong at the box office, there is no excuse for the makers to say people aren't interested in getting into theatres anymore. OK Jaanu was required to be a success for Aditya Roy Kapur, who was looking at back to back failures as a solo leading man with Fitoor and Daawat e Ishq tanking. Let's hope the movie's collections improve a bit over the coming days, since there is no big release this week.
