Manikarnika is a Bollywood biopic that we are eagerly waiting for. Based on Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi's heroic fight with Britishers, the film has Kangana Ranaut playing the central character. Lakshmibai's story is such that the present generation needs to know about. On her 160th death anniversary today, the makers of the film released a new poster of the film which celebrates the brave woman. Kangana plays the feisty princess, who was a warrior and had fought tooth and nail with the British. Talking about her character, Kangana had told a daily, “But when you talk about Laxmibai, she was the general of an army. She was an extraordinary woman. How many battles she fought in the prime of her youth! She was like a ‘killing machine’. So it would be a shame to try to get into character superficially through clothes, make-up, hair styles and jewellery. And if you give blood to play such a woman, it’s worth it. To be honest, I’m only happy. You can’t hope to immortalise the greatest warrior of all times without having a battle scar on your face. So it’s justified.”

Vijayendra Prasad, the writer of Manikarnika, has also penned Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Baahubali. He had revealed in an interview that the war scenes in the film will be class apart. The film will also be Ankita Lokhande’s debut in Bollywood which is one more reason to look forward to it.
