The veteran actor was seen presenting the Best Motion Picture award to the Birdman director...
The Oscars night ran pretty smoothly up until the point Sean Penn was called on stage to present the Best Picture award to the Birdman team. He made a joke about the director Alejandro Inarritu, saying, "Who gave this son of bitch a green card anyway?" On Twitter, many think that the joke was in bad taste and that Sean Penn should know how to mind his words. Even Amitabh Bachchan took to Twitter and wrote, "T 1778 - Sean Penn comment on declaring Alejandro award .. " who gave this SOB a green card " !! Hmmmmm ... !!" People are saying that the joke was racist and in bad taste but ask the Birdman director himself and he just brushes off the entire episode saying that it was a joke between friends... Also Read - Coronavirus pandemic: Sean Penn to run a Coronavirus testing centre in East LA
Right after his Oscar win, Alejandro was quoted saying, "I found it hilarious. Sean and I had that kind of brutal relationship where only true friendship can survive. When I was directing him in ’21 Grams,’ he was always making jokes … I made a lot of very tough jokes (to him) that I will not tell you."
So the world can stop accusing Sean Penn of being a racist because he and Alejandro share inside jokes. But I just wished that the Oscars went by without that particular joke. What are your thoughts on this? Let me know in the comments section below!
