We are just two days away from the Oscars 2019 and the excitement is quite there. Will Blank Panther create history by bagging the Best Picture trophy? Will Lady Gaga come out victorious with her first acting debut winning a trophy in the Best Actress category? These are just a few of the questions that would be going on in your head. Keeping all of this aside, there could be another query in your head as well - 'Will the Oscars have a goof up this year as well?' Not that we want to but, c'mon we all know that during such a live event, few goof ups end up happening. However, some of these mistakes became the highlight of the year. I mean we all remember the iconic Moonlight - La La Land confusion. Well, let us also remind you that, it was not the only iconic goof up that has ever occurred. In case you aren't an Oscars fan then let us help you out. We bring to you five such historic goof-ups that happened in the Oscars. So without wasting any more words, grab your popcorn and get in the time machine...
The Frankonfusion 1934
If you think that 2017 was the only time when viewers were confused with the viewer's name then you are not paying attention to the game. In 1934, for the first time, this confusion occurred in the Award function and it was because there were two Franks nominated for the Best Director category. When presenter Will Rogers went on stage to announce that Frank has won the award, both Frank Lloyd (Cavalcade) and Frank Capra (Lady for a Day) stood up to receive the award. Only after coming up on the stage, the latter returned to his seat sans the golden man.
The Streaker 1974
If there was a best goof-up award ceremony, The Streaker incident would have won in all the categories hands down. In 974, despite the tight security, a photographer and gay activist named Robert Opel got on stage while David Niven was on the stage presenting an award. Now you might ask what is so historic?! Duh! Well, Opel was all naked, and it was streamed LIVE
When Jack Fury got furious - 1995
Remember that scene from Bollywood's Om Shanti Om (2008) wherein Akshay Kumar and Abhishek Bachchan's characters lose an award to Shah Rukh Khan's and they don't take it gracefully. Well, it wasn't quite an original idea since Samuel L Jackon, our popularly Jack Fury did the same when he lost his Best Supporting Actor (Pulp Fiction) award to Martin Landau for Ed Wood. Jackon hurled Shit when it was announced. Quite embarrassing!
When Jan Chapman said Abhi Toh Main Zinda hoon - 2017
Another big mistake done by the Oscars was when they put up an alive Jan Chapman's picture in their In Memoriam segment. Janet Patterson was supposed to be in the listm but apparently they were too drunk to find the difference between Janet and Jan.
Moonlight La La Land Goof up 2017
And we have kept the biggest goof-up in the end! 2017's Oscars seems to be iconic for its silly mistakes. To cut it short, the presenter was given a wrong envelope, who announced La La Land to be the winner for Best Picture category, while it was Moonlight that actually bagged it. It was pretty awkward since the team of La La Land were on the stage celebrating their victory only to realize that they have in fact lost it. Ouch!
