It's been months and we are still talking about Padmaavat. The CBFC has cleared the movie with five modifications, the name of the film has been altered, and even Supreme Court has ordered the states to release the film. But...fringe groups who have placed themselves above law and order in the past 4 months are still hellbent at getting the movie banned. From issuing threats to human life and public property to borderline riots - all has been done by the groups claiming to protect the honour of Rani Padmini. In the latest reports of protests in Bihar, it has come to light that a political group took to streets to shout slogans against the film with placards that read 'Ban Padmavaat'. Earlier, too, the same scene was seen in various cities in India including Indore, Jaipur, etc. But for every action, there is a reaction, and Bollywood has tightened its seat belt to take the rough ride. Adding on to the list of celebrities who have come out to support the release of the film, popular actress Renuka Shahana took to her social media pages to voice her opinion.
Renuka held placards, in a smart contrast with the fringe groups, which read, "Ban rape", "Ban female foeticide" and "Ban sexual molestation". Renuka rightly points out the real problem that Indians should be dealing with at the moment. We'd need more people like Renuka to make noise to actually drown the bullying voices of fringe groups in India with a superficial and flawed idea of what honour is supposed to mean. Despite the clearance given by SC, theatre owners in Gujarat have decided to not release Padmaavat. Reason being that they are scared that they will become targets of violence of fringe groups. It is about time the Indian government intervened before any serious blow to the integrity of India's constitution and everything it stands for.
