Padmavati has been one of the most troubled projects of the recent times. Since the time it went on floors, the film has been garnering unwarranted attention of people. The movie is being directed by one of India's prominent filmmakers, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who has films like Devdas, Bajirao Mastani, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam to his credit. The root cause of all the problems surrounding his upcoming film is the plot. Padmavati retells the popular folklore of Rani Padmini's johar after her kingdom was attacked by Alauddin Khilji. The movie stars Deepika Padukone as the Rajputana queen, while her real life beau Ranveer Singh stars as the Sultan of Delhi. Months ago, the director was beaten up by the members of the Shri Rajput Karni Sena when the rumours of a dream sequence between Padmavati and Alauddin surfaced. Though the filmmaker has time and again made it clear that there is no such scene in his film, the organisation and people against the film are not ready to listen. With only a few days left for the release of the film, Sanjay has released a video, as a last attempt to make everyone understand that his movie is about the valor of Rani Padmini and in no way defames her. In the video the filmmaker says, "I have always been influenced by the story of Rani Padmavati. This film salutes her valor and sacrifice," and adds, "There is no scene between Padmavati and Alauddin that will hurt the sentiments of anyone". "We’ve been going hoarse saying there is absolutely no dream sequence featuring Deepika and Ranveer. They haven’t shot together in ‘Padmavati’ for a single day. We don’t know who started this rumour of the two being together. It has caused monstrous mischief for the project and created havoc with Mr Bhansali’s peace of mind.” a source close to the project had earlier told IANS. Meanwhile, distributors in Rajasthan have found themselves in a tough spot after receieving letter from Rajput Karni Sena requesting them to not screen the film. "We know that these leaders are not requesting us but warning us to not run the film or else be ready for the repercussions. Any sensible person will understand their intentions and will not run the film,” a cinema manager was quoted by TOI.
