At exactly 13:03, the long awaited, much anticipated Padmavati trailer was unveiled on social media. 3 minutes later, it has been proved (yet again) that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is an extraordinary filmmaker as the magnum opus' promo leaves us speechless. The illustrious sets, Deepika Padukone's glorious beauty, Shahid Kapoor's regal majestic avatar, Ranveer Singh's raw madness and the hypnotic background score have come together to give us one of the most awe-inspiring trailers in recent times. The magnum opus may have had a controversial beginning but those blips will seem insignificant after this promo. Picking specific moments has been difficult because there are too many to choose from. After much difficulty, we have come up with 5 moments we can't get over even now: Also Read: Padmavati trailer: Ranveer Singh reminds us of Game Of Thrones’ Khal Drogo and we can’t even…
Entry scene: The trailer begins with a magnificent glimpse of the Chittor kingdom with the beautiful skyline. That's Sanjay Leela Bhansali's larger than life vision on display. The kingdom then brightens up with Deepika's presence as Rani Padmini as she walks towards the entrance to meet the majestic Rajput king, MahaRawal Ratan Singh played by Shahid Kapoor. He re-defines royalty in his kingly avatar, its suits him perfectly. This moment on, we are blown away already by Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus!
Shahid - Deepika's chemistry: We were excited to see Shahid and Deepika debut as a pair and we haven't been disappointed. If love could be defined in a picture, it would be that of Shahid gazing at her while she earnestly stitches his turban. The subtle intimacy they share was more intense than all the loud romance we have seen so far.
Ranveer's menacing avatar: If Shahid-Deepika's personalities were delicate and understated, Ranveer Singh's avatar as Alauddin Khilji was loud, garish and intense. Throughout the trailer, we are given glimpse of Alauddin's madness and obsession that drove him to war. Ranveer Singh as the Alauddin Khilji ie evil personified. His flamboyant ways make him one of the most striking characters in this film.
On coming war: The scene where Shahid and Deepika appear concerned while looking on from the parapet, tells you of a war coming. While there haven't been many shots of the battlefield, we have seen scenes of Ranveer Singh almost battle scarred, Shahid preparing for war, and the the rage of the army approaching. This is the war of an obsessed lover vs a Rajput ruler who wants ot protect his wife.
Rani Padmini preparing for Jauhar: She is the epitome of grace and striking beauty, but there is a quiet firmness about Rani Padmini you see in her eyes. There's a scene where she is seen preparing a pyre with no fear, there is another still where you see her walking forward confidently with a sense of purpose. Her dialogue refelctes her power when she say "Rajputi kangan main utni hi taakat hai jitni Rajputi talwaar main."
After this epic promo, it's hard to believe that we have more than a month to go for the film's release. The movie hits theatres only December 1st.
